About MeMy license qualifies me to teach Secondary (9-12) English and History, and I have an additional certification in Academically and Intellectually Gifted students. I also have my Masters in the Art of Teaching (MAT) for secondary education from Salem College. I am a proud woman, mother, and educator. Some of my greatest passions in life are reading, writing, learning and teaching - and I am looking forward to sharing them with you. |
My Journey |
My journey to teaching has been long, perilous, and full of “real-world” experience. As a child with strong familial-teacher influences, I dreamed of being an educator. When college arrived, however, I concluded that I could do anything with an intellectual base, and so I should aim for the highest paycheck. As life would have it, I decided many years later to return to school (at my own great expense), but this time there was never a question of what I should and would become.

My Pedagogy |
I value education and view learning as a lifelong responsibility and pleasure. I strive to make a difference in the lives of my students - to allow them an opportunity to create, think, and reflect. I believe that all students have potential and learning is most effective when it is relevant to their lives. I believe questions are often more important than the answers. I am a consummate advocate for the underdog, but strive for fairness and equity. I hold high expectations for my students, but in a low stress environment. My goals are not grades, but mastery and inquiry.
